GENERAL NEWBORN SESSION QUESTIONS

  • When should I set up an appointment for my newborn photo session?
Book your session in advance.  Please give us at least 3-6 weeks for in-hospital photo session so we can reserve our time. In-hospital session will be scheduled within 7-48 hours of baby’s arrival, On-site/Emi’s home studio session will be scheduled within 10 days after baby’s arrival.
  • How can I prepare for the shoot?
We love to include mom and dad’s hands or close-up faces in our photos. Wear clear or neutral nail polish on the day of your shoot. Distracting jewelry should be removed; your baby should be the focus of the photos.  Bring a dark-colored shirt to wear in the photos; we may photograph your baby in your arms and solid/dark colors look great in both color and black-and-white prints.
  • What do I have to prepare before the photo session?
If possible, finish feeding your baby before the photo session (Newborn baby should be sleeping during the photo session and older baby should be fed happy)
and set your room temperature little higher than normal for your baby’s diaper shots.

IN-HOSPITAL NEWBORN SESSION

  • How long is the photo shoot?
It will take about 0.5 hour for in-hospital.  We will spend enough time to ensure your baby is happy at all times during the photo session and you can relax and watch or be part of the session.
  • Should we bring a special blanket or clothes?
We absolutely encourage you to bring a favorite baby blanket or any personal item in the shoot. A beautiful blanket can add texture, color and memories to your newborn’s photos. Photos will be taken in his/her birthday suit or with favorite outfits.  I prefer little to no clothing for newborn baby. Cute beanies/hats/flower headbands are nice but should be fitted.
  • My baby is in the NICU, can I still have a photo shoot?
Yes, let your nurse know you are having a professional photographer come and take pictures. I know things that we don’t expect happen and families go through a difficult time when babies are in NICU. If you prefer to reschedule to later time, we will accept your request.

SETTING YOUR HOME FOR YOUR SESSION

  • I will use the master bedroom, baby’s room or living room for the photo session.
If you don’t have your favorite bed sheets to include in the photos, I have white bed sheets.
  • I like using master bed, space by the windows or walls as a background to make it more personal.  I also bring my backdrops and set up a home studio.
  • Baby room is always great to photograph as a memory. I like taking some pictures of baby’s crib or decorations.
  • If we have time and your baby is happy taking more photos, we could go outside and take few family pictures.

EMI’S HOME STUDIO NEWBORN SESSION

  • Why scheduling a session within 10 days? If we can’t schedule ourselves, is it ok to schedule later?
I recommend booking a home studio session 2-10 days after baby’s arrival. We want baby to be tiny and sleepy!
  • My husband is off work only on weekends, can I schedule our photo session on weekends?
We always encourage husbands and siblings to participate if they are available at the time of the shoot, but weekends are always popular days and we may not be available.
